Responsibilities for faculty members in the English program include teaching three classes per semester of first-year composition and contributing to service and extracurricular activities on campus. English faculty members report to the Director of Rhetoric from the University of Illinois as well as the Dean of the ZJU-UIUC Institute.

All candidates are required to have a doctorate (preferred) or master’s degree in English or other relevant field, plus teaching experience at the college level. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate excellence and leadership in teaching writing at the college level.

Applications must include an application letter, a complete CV, a philosophy of teaching statement, two sample syllabi from prior teaching experiences (each no more than five pages in length that stress assignments, texts, grading policies, and schedules), and names and contact information of three professional references. References will be contacted by the Institute to provide letters of recommendation. Strong candidates will articulate teaching philosophies and practices grounded in currently accepted disciplinary best practices? provide detailed examples to demonstrate conscientious, student-centered teaching methods? and provide specific examples of how they emphasize equity, access and inclusion in their classrooms by supporting diverse student populations.
